Asked at what time the Prime Minister had been informed about the soldier killed in Afghanistan during a raid to free the journalist Stephen Farrell and if the soldier had been from the Special Forces, the PMS said that he was not in a position to confirm any details of the operation. The Prime Minister was told about the operation s success early this morning. As and when we were in a position to give out more details we would do so.
Asked for more information regarding the Prime Minister s conversation with General Dutton, the PMS said that it had been a brief conversation; the Prime Minister had wanted to thank General Dutton and say well done to the team that went in.
