Climate Change Speech
« Governor of the Bank of England and Treasury | Back to most recent briefing | Misc »
Asked how much of the 100 billion for climate change would be paid by the taxpayer, the Prime Minister s Spokesman (PMS) said that the Prime Minister addressed this in his speech; we would pay our fair share but this was an issue for further discussion and negotiation in the months ahead.
Put that the Prime Minister had talked about raising money from the aviation industry, the PMS said that it had been a long-standing objective of the Government to bring the aviation sector into the environmental trading scheme. It was important that all sectors of the economy that generated CO2 emissions were brought into the mechanisms for dealing with it because the cost of not acting would be much greater in the longer run, as the Stern report a couple of years ago demonstrated.
