Asked if there was any truth to the story about introducing compromised measures to allow Royal Mail to compete more aggressively, the Prime Minister s Spokesman (PMS) said that we would set out the legislation to enable extra private sector investment in the Royal Mail very shortly. As and when further details emerged, a more detailed proposition would come to light.
Asked about what happened at the legislative sub-committee yesterday, the PMS said that he would not get into internal Government processes; everybody in the Cabinet supported Government s position on Royal Mail and we would proceed along the envisaged timetable.
Put that there were disagreements relating to Royal Mail between various Cabinet members, the PMS said that Government policy had been set out very clearly by Lord Mandelson.
