Iraq

Asked whether the Prime Minister used Iraqi interpreters when he went to Iraq, the PMS said he would have to check. Asked if the Prime Minister was concerned that the revelations in the FOI on the background to the settlement package showed the Government in a certain light, the PMS replied that the Government s position was set out in October by the Foreign Secretary when he made his statement to the House of Commons and that represented the Government s position in the round on the issue of Iraqi locally engaged staff and the offer of assistance that was put to them.

The PMS said that he did not think that the document should be read in isolation and he would go back to the point that David Miliband s statement remained the Government s position and set out its full range of concerns.
