Asked for information on the announcement, the PMS said it was in relation to the Congo Basin project. The UK was today pledging an additional £8million to boost the£50million grant already announced for innovative schemes to prevent deforestation in Central Africa. The Norwegian Government was also today announcing £50million for the fund and we expected other Governments, the business community and other donors would contribute to this important international fund.
Asked if there was a reason why Britain and Norway were working together on this, the PMS said he thought that Britain and Norway had always worked very closely together on development matters.
