Nuclear Power
« Miscellaneous | Back to most recent briefing | Saudi Arabia/Oil Prices »
Asked about the 1000 nuclear power stations the Prime Minister had mentioned in the press conference this morning, the PMS said that that figure had come from the International Atomic Energy Agency who had said that the world would need something like 30 new power stations a year over the next 30 to 40 years.
Asked if the Prime Minister’s comments at the press conference on nuclear power had meant that there was a possibility of overruling what devolved administrations might think on the subject, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had said that the energy issues that we faced were issues that all countries faced and that they were issues that affected all parts of the UK. These decisions were not just about the next couple of years; they were decisions which we would continue to make for many years to come.
