Britishness

Asked what the Prime Minister thought about the idea put forward by Liam Byrne suggesting a Great British weekend on the Bank Holiday at the end of August, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) told the assembled press that the Prime Minister’s general view on the subject was that Lord Goldsmith completed a review on Britishness which had a number of recommendations in it and the Government generally supported the general direction of them.

There was currently a public debate underway on them and Liam Byrne’s speech on the subject was a contribution to that debate. Put that the reason why Liam Byrne was suggesting that weekend was because it was a Bank Holiday, but unfortunately it wasn’t in Scotland, the PMS replied that Liam Byrne was making a contribution to a debate that was ongoing.
