Attacks on Firefighters
« Archbishop of Canterbury | Back to most recent briefing | Air Marshals »
Asked if the Government accepted figures from the Fire Brigades Union regarding attacks on firefighters, the PMS replied that, as DCLG had been making clear, this was an important issue and one that the Government took very seriously. It was unacceptable that firefighters should have to face such behaviour; there had been new rules, introduced last year, to crack down on antisocial behaviour hindering firefighters and other emergency workers.
Asked if the Government accepted that the problem was getting worse, the PMS said that the official figures had been reported to DCLG by the Fire and Rescue Service in England and it was DCLG who were responsible for maintaining those official figures. We were saying that this was an important issue and an issue that we took very seriously.
